The Security Council is holding intensive meetings (December 22-26) to discuss the Sudanese crisis, the Iranian nuclear file, and Myanmar, at a critical time that may shape the course of these crises. The sessions coincide with Egyptian-Russian calls to reform the Council and increase African representation, but international divisions between the Western axis and the Russian-Chinese axis may obstruct any effective decision, and any failure will mean continued conflicts and loss of the Council’s credibility as a body capable of maintaining international peace.
